Wabash General Hospital Physical Therapist Earns Board Certification as Electrophysiologic Clinical Specialist

Mitch Kocher, PT, of Wabash General Hospital, has earned board certification as an Electrophysiologic Clinical Specialist (ECS) through the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), a distinction recognizing advanced expertise in evaluating and diagnosing nerve and muscle disorders.

This highly specialized certification places Kocher among a select group of physical therapists nationwide with advanced training in electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies, critical diagnostic tools used to assess neuromuscular conditions, guide treatment decisions, and improve patient outcomes.

The APTA’s board certification process is rigorous, requiring extensive clinical experience and successful completion of a comprehensive examination. Board-certified specialists represent the highest level of clinical expertise within the physical therapy profession.

“We are incredibly proud of Mitch for achieving this distinction,” said Andrew Kleinschmidt, Vice President of Professional Services at Wabash General Hospital. “Over the past two years, he has dedicated himself to earning this designation through rigorous study, advanced clinical training, travel, and comprehensive practical and oral examinations. This level of commitment reflects the very best of our organization. Mitch is now among fewer than five clinical electrophysiologic specialists in Illinois, a remarkable achievement and a true testament to his dedication to clinical excellence. His expertise enhances our ability to provide neuromuscular diagnostic services locally, ensuring patients receive advanced care close to home.”

With Kocher’s new certification, Wabash General Hospital expands access to highly specialized neuromuscular evaluation services in the region, supporting physicians, improving diagnostic accuracy, and helping patients achieve better outcomes without the need to travel outside the community.
