Ambulance Services
Our ambulance service provides the community highly skilled emergency medicine
professionals ready to help at a moment’s notice. Apart from 9-1-1
emergency response, we also offer transfers between healthcare facilities 24/7.
Services We Offer
Wabash General Hospital Ambulance Service operates 3 ambulances. Our certification
designates 3 Advanced Life Support (ALS) vehicles. A licensed EMT leads
the BLS team while a licensed EMT-Paramedic leads the ALS ambulance team.
WGH also has 2 ALS non-transport vehicles. This type of vehicle responds
to and provides emergency medical services without the ability to transport patients.
The 3 ALS vehicles provide:
- Contact information for specialized transportation (medical helicopter)
- Emergency medical treatment at the scene of injury or illness
- Medical care and monitoring inside the ambulance
- Scheduled transfers between health care facilities (i.e., to a specialty
hospital for cardiac care, labor and delivery, mental health, severe trauma,
or stroke)
- Transportation to Wabash General Hospital or the most appropriate medical facility
The 2 ALS non-transport vehicles provide:
- As rapid response vehicles assist an ambulance where they need additional
hands on a 911 scene.
- When there are less than two ambulances staffed to the level of ALS available,
they can assist a Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance by providing ALS
care on scene and then riding with them to the hospital.
- When both our ambulances are unavailable due to a high call volume and
an additional 911 call comes in, they can respond to the scene to assess
and treat patients prior to the arrival of a mutual aid ambulance. They
can do so because they carry all the equipment and medications that an
ALS ambulance carries.
- They are outfitted to be used for search and rescue operations.
- They can be used as a Command Vehicle in mass casualty incidents.
- They can be utilized for stand-by events that need medical coverage (e.g.,
Football Games, Ag Days).
