Wabash General Hospital Receives National 5-Star Recognition for Quality and Patient Experience

Wabash General Hospital has been awarded a 5-Star Rating from the National Rural Rating System (NRRS) for the first quarter of 2026, a national distinction recognizing rural and critical access hospitals that demonstrate excellence in patient experience, quality outcomes, and community-centered care.

The NRRS 5-Star designation places Wabash General Hospital among a select group of rural hospitals nationwide that consistently exceed performance benchmarks while serving communities where access to care is both vital and complex.

“Achieving a 5-Star NRRS rating reflects our strong commitment to delivering safe, high-quality, and patientcentered care,” said Katheryn McWhirter, Vice President of Quality. “This recognition is made possible by our teams working together every day with a shared dedication to our patients. Each interaction is an opportunity to provide meaningful care, and this achievement highlights the compassion, teamwork, and reliability our staff bring to serving our community close to home.

The National Rural Rating System evaluates hospitals using rigorous criteria informed by nationally recognized patient experience and performance data. Hospitals earning a 5-Star Rating demonstrate superior reliability, service quality, and patient-centered practices across multiple measures.

Brock Slabach, Chief Operating Officer of the National Rural Health Association, emphasized the importance of the recognition: “Rural hospitals are the backbone of their communities. Achievements like a 5-Star NRRS rating highlight the perseverance, skill, and heart of teams who deliver high-quality care despite limited resources and ongoing challenges.”
